About the Artist
Samir Roy is an award-winning contemporary Indian painter and sculptor. He completed his Diploma in Fine Arts between 1984 and 1988 from the Indian College of Arts and Draftsmanship (Rabindra Bharati University) and the College of Visual Arts, Kolkata. He is multi-disciplinary, working dynamically with canvas painting, mixed media, and three-dimensional ceramic sculptures. His visual narrative blends modern Indian sensibilities with classic and Western modern art influences. Winner of the 41st National Academy Award from the Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi (1998). He was also awarded the Senior Fellowship by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India (2007).
