About the Artist
Bijan Choudhury - (1931–2012) (often spelled Bijan Chowdhury) was a major modern Indian painter from Bengal, closely associated with the Calcutta Painters group and the post–Bengal School modern art movement. Born in Faridpur (now in Bangladesh) in 1931, he studied at the Government College of Art & Craft, Kolkata and later completed studies in Dhaka. Became a key figure in progressive modern art in Bengal. His work bridges folk visual language and modern psychological realism.
