About the Artist
Born in 1948 in Bengal, the artist earned an M.A. in Fine Arts (Painting) from the Faculty of Fine Arts at Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda in 1972. Over the years, she has exhibited extensively across India and internationally. Her solo exhibitions include notable shows such as 'The Japanese Wife and Other Tales' at Art Alive Gallery, New Delhi in 2013, 'Rooted Landscapes' at Jehangir Art Gallery and Tao Art Gallery, Mumbai, and Gallery Sanskriti, Kolkata in 2010, and 'Of Mortal, Mythic and Divine' at Gallery Sanskriti, Kolkata in 2008. Additionally, the artist has showcased her work in various international venues, including Galerie Brita Printz in Madrid, Galerie Art and Data in Frankfurt, University Austral de Chile in Valdivia, Chile, and Group Exhibitions at events like the Print Biennales in Madrid and Frechen, Germany. Dhumal has also been part of prestigious group exhibitions, such as 'An Alternative Perspective' at the Centre of International Modern Art (CIMA), Kolkata in 2012, and 'Sacred and Secular' at India Fine Art, Mumbai in 2009. Honoured with several awards, the artist received the M.S. Randhawa Award from the All India Fine Arts and Crafts Society (AIFACS) in 1988, the National Award from Lalit Kala Akademi the same year, and the Chancellor's Gold Medal in 1972. Additionally, she was awarded a French Government Scholarship in 1975-76, which allowed them to work under Sir S.W. Hayter at Atelier 17 in Paris, further refining their skills as a printmaker and painter.
