Jayasri Burman (West Bengal)

About Artist

Born into a family of artists, Burman was well exposed to the art world from a young age. She studied at Kala Bhavan, Santiniketan between 1977 and 1979. She later joined the Visual College of Arts, Kolkata and then went to France in 1984 to learn print making. She works mainly in watercolour, using rich, strong hues and bold themes with a mythic element. Much of her work centres on the role and position of women. She also has a deep interest in nature, which leads her to examine the bond between women and nature. Her works have been displayed extensively in India and abroad. Burman lives and works in New Delhi.
