About Artist
Himmat Shah was born in Lothal, Gujarat. He studied art at The Faculty of Fine Arts of M. S. University of Baroda and was also the recipient of a scholarship from the French Government enabling him to study etching at Atelier 17 under SW Hayeter and Krishna Reddy in Paris in 1967. Shah drew inspiration from artist Jagdish Swaminathan and was a part of the artists’ group "1890". As a budding artist, Shah learnt under the guidance of N. S. Bendre and K. G. Subramanyan in. Shah has participated in several group shows in India and abroad. He has been the recipient of the Kalidasa Samman by the Government of Madhya Pradesh, the All India Fine Arts and Crafts Society (AIFACS) Award, and the Sahitya Kala Parishad Award amongst many others. In 2016, The Kiran Nadar Museum of Art hosted a retrospective ‘Hammer on the square’ featuring some of Shah’s finest works. The artist lives and works in New Delhi.Artwork
