About the Artist
Roy K. John, born in 1977, draws inspiration from the avant-garde art movement that emerged in France during the post-impressionist era. Much like the contributions of Henri Rousseau, John's work delves into new artistic approaches, reflecting his own identity as a resident of tropical regions. His art reclaims the flora, fauna, fruits, and animals that are intrinsic to Indian forests, merging his political and environmental perspectives with a celebration of nature's richness. John’s formal training includes a degree from Kalabhavan School of Arts in Thrissur and a Master’s in traditional mural painting from the Temple of Arts in Guruvayoor. By blending his traditional skills with a contemporary style, John has developed a unique visual language that reflects Kerala’s natural beauty. John’s work has been widely exhibited in major Indian cities as well as internationally, including Dubai. He has participated in significant Biennales and group exhibitions across India. Gallerie Splash holds several of his pieces in their collection and has showcased his art in Delhi multiple times. Roy K. John continues to live and work in Kerala, drawing from its rich natural surroundings to inform his artistic practice.
