Born in 1950 in Pune, Maharashtra, Nayanaa Kanodia is an economist turned painter who completed her Honours Degree in Economics from Lady Shri Ram College, New Delhi, recieving the prestigious National Scholarship from the Government of India. Kanodia's unique artistic journey began with a year-long apprenticeship under the renowned artist Anjolie Ela Menon, after which she developed her distinct style independently. Kanodia’s paintings are characterised by vibrant compositions filled with intricate details and patterns. Kanodia’s works depict contemporary Indian society, showcasing street vendors, flower sellers, Bollywood stars, and everyday life in Mumbai with remarkable attention to detail. She often portrays Gujarati, Parsi, and Mumbaikar communities, exploring the bipolarity of a nation standing at the crossroads of cultural and economic transformation. Her works are part of public and private collections worldwide, and she has held over 20 solo exhibitions in major cities like London, Washington, Tokyo, Hong Kong, and Paris, along with participating in numerous group shows. The artist continues to live and work in Mumbai.
