About the Artist
Vivan Sundaram was born in 1943, in Simla. He studied painting at M.S.University, Vadodara and at the Slade School of Fine Art, London, in the 1960s. He was one of the first Indian artists to switch from making paintings to artworks like sculptures, installations, photography and video. He has exhibited in the Bienniale's of Sydney, Shanghai, Havana and Johannesburg. He has participated in several group shows and held many solo exhibits in India and abroad. He is currently working on History Project Part 2 which will have references to art deco, jazz and the forgotten Indian Naval Mutiny of February 1946 (*taken from interview with S.Tripath, The Hindu, on Jan 16th 2016). The artist lives and works in New Delhi.
