About ArtistGawde was born in Mumbai and graduated from the Sir J. J. School of Art in 1980. Inspite of his formal art education, he worked at the Mumbai Port Trust for almost 15 years. The various sights and sounds of the dockyard were a major source of inspiration for Gawde, which he fruitfully brought alive is his paintings. The use of trowels and scrapers gives his paintings a texture similar to that of masons and housepainters. The artist has held several shows in India and abroad. Some of his landmark shows include Sour Ambrousia at Gallerie Rabouan Muission, Paris and Arks Gallery, London. The artist was also a part of the 53rd Venice Biennale. He lives and works in Mumbai.
