Born in Vizianagaram, Andhra Pradesh, A. Rajeswara Rao is among India's leading contemporary artists, celebrated for his distinctive visual language that blends wit, social commentary, and technical mastery. A graduate of Andhra University (BFA, 1983) and the University of Hyderabad (MFA, 1990), Rao has spent over three decades developing a unique artistic practice rooted in close observation of human behaviour and contemporary society. Rao draws inspiration from the people around him, capturing their aspirations, vanities, desires, and everyday rituals with remarkable sensitivity. His paintings are characterised by fragmented, geometric compositions, intricate line work, decorative patterning, and luminous surfaces enriched with metallic accents. Rather than telling literal stories, his works create layered visual narratives that invite viewers to interpret the psychological and cultural nuances of modern life. His paintings have been exhibited at leading galleries across India, including Gallery Espace, New Delhi; Sakshi Gallery, Bengaluru; and Dhoomimal Gallery, New Delhi.
