About the Artist

Reena Saini Kallat is an Indian contemporary artist whose work centers on the delicate interplay between nature and the human condition. Her art spans a wide variety of media, including installations, photographs, paintings, and sculptures, all reflecting the recurring cycles of creation and destruction, birth and rebirth, and defeat and resurgence. Nature, or Prakriti, serves as a fundamental theme in her work, which often highlights how we are blind to the impermanence and fragility of things we often take for granted, such as food, shelter, and material objects. A graduate of the Sir J.J. School of Art in 1996, Reena belongs to a generation of Indian artists who have redefined abstract art. Her early solo show "Orchards of Homegrown Secrets" (1998) in Mumbai marked the beginning of a prolific career, including exhibitions like "Earth Families" (2017) at the Manchester Museum and "Porous Passages" (2015) at Nature Morte, New Delhi. She has also been honoured with awards such as the Gladstone Solomon Award for painting. She has been honoured with the Gladstone Solomon Award for painting, an acknowledgment of her exceptional talent and contribution to contemporary Indian art. Her work has been showcased in renowned institutions such as the Manchester Museum in the UK, Vancouver Art Gallery in Canada, the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, and the ZKM in Karlsruhe, Germany. Kallat’s art has also been featured at global art events, including the Busan Biennale in South Korea, the 2017 Nuit Blanche in Toronto, the St. Moritz Art Masters in Switzerland, and the Sculpture Park at Madhavendra Palace, Jaipur. Through her extensive international exhibitions, Kallat has established herself as a leading figure in contemporary art, resonating with audiences worldwide. Kallat lives and works in Mumbai.
