Born in 1977 in West Bengal, Chaitali Chanda holds a Bachelor of Visual Arts in painting from the Indian College of Art and Draftsmanship, affiliated with Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata (2002). In 2004, she completed a Gurukul Parichaya Sikshakram program under Rajya Charukala Prasad, Government of West Bengal. The artist has showcased her work in numerous solo exhibitions, including at Somokal Art Gallery in 2008, Bajaj Arts Gallery in Mumbai in 2012, and the Academy of Fine Arts in Kolkata in 2010 and 2019. Other notable venues for their one-man shows include Gallery Nakshatra in Kolkata (2012), the Convention Center in Delhi (2009), and Open Palm Court in New Delhi (2011). The artist’s works in a range of mediums from bronze sculptures to acrylic paintings. Her works often feature themes of femininity and motherhood. She captures the colloquial visual culture of India through her portrayal of rural India and its people, with its crowded markets, lush forestry and dynamic sights. Chaitali’s sculptures are imbued with a sense of movement and rhythm, and often showcase women in action.
