About the Artist
Vinita Karim, an international artist of Indian descent with Swedish nationality, was born in 1962 in Yangon, Myanmar. Vinita holds a Diploma in Fine Arts from the Gerlesborg Art Institute, Stockholm, a B.Sc. in Economics from the University of Stockholm, and an MFA from the University of the Philippines. With over 20 solo exhibitions worldwide, her art invites viewers on grand adventures through a unique lens of abstraction. She currently divides her time between Dhaka and Delhi. A global nomad, her art reflects her rich diasporic identity, blending cultural influences from her travels across Malta, the Sahara, Dhaka, and the Mediterranean. Her vibrant paintings, sculptures, and installations merge traditional and modern aesthetics, exploring themes of inclusivity, diversity, and human interconnectedness. Using materials like oil, acrylic, gold leaf, and kalamkari patterns, she crafts abstract works that celebrate the fusion of east and west, and her personal experiences within a global village.
