About the Artist
Shankar Kendale, born in Pune in 1948, is a graduate of Abhinav Kala Vidyalaya, where he secured second rank in Maharashtra state, Kendale's early career was rooted in the advertising industry, working as Senior Art Director with Ogilvy & Mather and consulting for Trikaya Gray, among other agencies. After garnering recognition through multiple awards in advertising, he shifted his focus entirely to painting, bringing the same intensity and attention to detail that marked his earlier illustrations. Kendale’s work, spanning watercolour, oil, pastel, and charcoal, is known for its introspective depth, combining luminous contrasts and shadowy undertones that lend a sense of drama and mystery to the everyday figures and landscapes he portrays. He has held solo exhibitions at major venues such as Jehangir Art Gallery and Nehru Centre in Mumbai, Apparao Galleries in Chennai, and Kynkyny Art Gallery in Bangalore. Kendale has also participated in international group shows in Jakarta, Dubai, Singapore, and London. His works are held in private collections worldwide, reflecting his extensive influence and appeal. Kendale currently lives and works in Bangalore.
