About the Artist
Amitabh Banerjee was born in 1928 in Bangladesh. He completed his studies from the Government School of Arts, Kolkata. He was introduced to the Bengal School of Paintings through the 'Prabashi' magazine. The artist's most significant and landmark exhibitions include Third British International Biennale (1972), Western-Pacific Print Biennale, Australia (1976). Intergrafik, Germany in (1978 & 1984), Seven Contemporary Artists, Birla Academy of Art and Culture. Kolkata (1982), Indian Prints, Amsterdam (1984), Print-making in India. Festival of India, USA (1985), exhibition at Waterloo University, Canada (1985) and Lalit Kala Akademi exhibition, Delhi (1985 & 1986). The artist has several awards and accolades to his credit. These include: the AIFACS Award (1976), the Birla Academy of Art and Culture Award (1978) and the Lalit Kala National Award. His works are on display in the Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi, the National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi, and the Birls Academy of Art and Culture, Calcutta.
