About the Artist
N. N. Rimzon was born in Kerela’s Kakkoor village in 1957 and is primarily known for his symbolic and enigmatic sculptures. Rimzon’s only exposure to art in his early years were commercial billboards in his neighbourhood. He created a book featuring portraits by Vincent van Gogh for an art competition in school and won. Rimzon enrolled in college in Thiruvananthapuram only when a relative, who had seen his drawings, encouraged him to pursue art. He studied sculpture at the College of Fine Arts there, followed by a post-graduation in the same subject from M. S. University, Vadodara. He also studied at the Royal College of Art in London. During this learning phase, Rimzon’s figures seem to reflect the concerns emanating from Leftist background in Kerela. Rimzon has held shows in New Delhi, Amsterdam, New York and Brisbane. He lives and works in Kerela.
