About the Artist
Anwar Khan, known in the art world simply as Anwar, was born in 1964 in Ambha, Madhya Pradesh. Without a formal education from a prestigious art institution, he pursued his passion for painting in Gwalior, earning a National Diploma in Fine Arts in 1985. Throughout his career, he has shown at several solo exhibitions, including one at Apparao Gallery in 2006. He has also been honoured with numerous awards, such as the Government of India Senior Fellowship in 1996-97. After his time in Gwalior, Anwar moved to Bhopal, drawn by its vibrant art scene. There, under the mentorship of the renowned artist J. Swaminathan, he embraced the philosophies of Sufism, which influenced his work's themes of light and love. Swaminathan's guidance helped Anwar refine his technique, shifting from harsh, angular abstracts to more subtle, textured compositions that convey a sense of silent, powerful emotion. He continues to live and work in Bhopal, creating art that reflects his journey and philosophy.
