About the Artist
Ganesh Pyne was born in Kolkata in the year 1937. The artist studied at the Government College of Arts and Crafts, Kolkata. In 1963, he joined the Society for Contemporary Artists. Initially, Pyne’s body of artworks painted comprised of watercolors and sketches of misty mornings and wayside temples, influenced by Walt Disney and the art of Abanindranath Tagore. The artist also was deeply influenced by Hals Rembrandt and Paul Klee. The artist’s experiences of solitude, alienation, pain, horror and moods of tenderness and serenity molded his signature style. Pyne passed away in 2013.
