About the Artist
Vikash Kalra, a self-taught artist of remarkable depth and experience, moves effortlessly through modernist expressionism, at times touching upon cubist and Fauvist idioms. There is an ease to his language — so assured that one might mistake his canvases for the work of a master who has consciously learned to unlearn academic rigour. A graduate of University of Delhi, Vikash is, at heart, a humanist — a quiet observer and sensitive listener to the tremors of inner emotional life. He approaches the canvas with the spontaneity of a child and the command of a seasoned modernist, allowing instinct and intellect to coexist in dynamic balance. Echoes of André Derain, Pablo Picasso, and Willem de Kooning may surface in fleeting moments. Yet a closer engagement reveals that these resonances are not acts of emulation. Rather, they arise organically — natural affinities that enable him to articulate his philosophical inquiries and aesthetic convictions with authenticity and force. In Vikash’s world, form bends to emotion, colour carries thought, and abstraction becomes a deeply human language.
