About the Artist
Vijay Shinde, a Pune-based artist originally from Sholapur, Maharashtra, draws deep inspiration from Indian ethos, spirituality, and philosophy. Formally trained at Abhinav College of Art in Pune and Sir J.J. School of Art in Mumbai, Shinde had the opportunity to interact with Indian art luminaries like M.F. Husain and S.H. Raza. His artistic journey began with his first solo show at Jehangir Art Gallery in 1984, followed by over 22 solo exhibitions and numerous group shows. His work reflects his belief in goodness, humanity, and the potential for change, often addressing themes of awakening and hope amidst challenges. Shinde’s dedication to abstraction underscores his commitment to exploring the unseen and the divine. Influenced by the writings of Swami Vivekananda, J. Krishnamurti, and India’s mythological traditions, his art explores cosmic energies, spirituality, and the quest for eternal truth. He prefers leaving his works untitled, encouraging a personal connection between the viewer and his creations.
