About the Artist

Born in Mumbai in 1967, Owais Hussain earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Painting from the Sir J.J. School of Arts, Mumbai. He later worked at the Kanoria Centre for Visual Arts, Ahmedabad (1991-1992). Hussain has exhibited his work in both solo and group exhibitions globally. His notable solo shows include ‘3 Worlds’ at Tao Art Gallery, Mumbai (2010), ‘Forest of Lost Languages: Return of the Native’* at Gallery Arts India, New York (2006), and *‘How we are living these days’ at Vadehra Art Gallery, Delhi (2000). He has also participated in significant group exhibitions such as ‘Keep Drawing’ at Gallery Espace, New Delhi (2008), and ‘Contemporary Indian Arts Today’ organized by Vadehra Art Gallery at Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai (1999). In addition to his exhibitions, the artist collaborated with his father, world renowned artist M.F. Husain, with whom he held a joint exhibition ‘Between 2 Lines’ at the Indian Embassy in Muscat (2011). He continues to explore the profound relationship between personal identity and the broader forces of nature and society in his work.
