About the Artist
Pandurang Tathe has been working in the field of contemporary Indian art for the last 35 years. He completed his training in Art at the Abhinav Kala Mahavidyalay & is an M.F.A. from Department of Fine Art, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar University, Aurangabad. He has been an asst. lecturer for the last 29 years with the Department of Fine Art, Abhinav Kala Mahavidyalay, Pune.. Beginning his career as an abstractionist, today Tathe has successfully moved to figurative painting. The houses and homes he paints expose a different side of urbanity, one very far from the ideas of a city that most people are used to. He paints urban Indian landscapes that are reminiscent of the ramshackle housing where he used to reside, and which so many others are forced to make their home. This is a darker side of the life in big cities. A side where dreams are broker rather than made and where slums rather than skyscrapers mark the horizon. He has exhibited his works at shows in Mumbai, where his first solo show was held at the Jehangir Art Gallery in 1991, and at shows in Chennai and his native Pune. Apart from taking part in group exhibitions, Tathe has also participated in other art events, like camps and workshops, in India as well as other countries. Tathe has been awarded across the country and his work is part of many collections in India and abroad.
