About the Artist
He is widely considered one of India's leading painters in the modern realistic tradition. He was born in Kolkata in 1959 & graduated in 1980 form Government College of Art & Craft, Kolkata. He has the skills of a virtuoso draftsman, skills that he honed during his years as the Senior Artist of the Ananda Bazar Group of publications. The strength of his lines and the life-like quality of his figures are features that have contributed to his enormous popularity and success. Subrata's artistic vision is informed by swirling colors, a sense of movement and a vivid array of color. The characters are in oil and acrylic canvases, come alive in all of their colorful glory. Subrata Gangopadhyay exhibits widely within India.
