About the Artist
Ashok Bhowmick was born in 1953. The artist received his diploma in fine arts from the Government College of Art and Craft in Calcutta (now Kolkata). Bhowmick belongs to the Bengal School of Art and is known for his figurative work that distinctively reflects the political landscape of West Bengal. Among his numerous accolades is the Governor’s Award, which he received in Kolkata in 1974. The artist's work is contemporary yet deeply rooted in Indian traditions. He has held solo exhibitions in New Delhi, Mumbai, and Kolkata, and has also participated in various group exhibitions. His artwork is featured in prestigious collections, including the Modern Museum in San Francisco, the Ulmer Museum in Germany, the Lalit Kala Academy, and the National Gallery of Modern Art in New Delhi. Bhowmick currently lives and works in Kolkata.
