About the Artist
B. Prabha was born near Nagpur in Maharashtra and studied at the Sir J. J. School of Art, Mumbai. She was influenced by the works of Amrita Shergil and worked at a time when there were few women artists. She was the recipient of the Bombay State Art Exhibition Prize in 1958 as well as the All India Fine Arts and Crafts Society Award. Prabha's initial experiments developed into a signature formal style. In the last year, B. Prabha's works have been featured in many shows including 'The Body Unbound' at the Rubin Museum of Art, New York; 'B. Prabha: From the Album' at the Viewing Room, Mumbai; and 'Celebration 2011' at Kumar Art Gallery, New Delhi. She was married to fellow artist B. Vithal.
