About the Art Form
Pattachitra is the art of painting on primed cloth or dried palm leaves in the finest detail. The themes depict images of Hindu deities and mythological characters. Traditionally the artists stuck together layers of old dhoti cloth with tamarind paste, lime and water. Today, these images are painted on fine tussar silk.
