About Art Form
Originating in Rajasthan, Phad paintings are large textiles that portray regional epics, stories from the lives of local folk heroes and demi gods - They depict complex folk narratives, through a stylistic visual idiom developed as an accompaniment to century old oral traditions. Traditionally these paintings form a visual backdrop to nightlong storytelling performances. The singer-performers travel with these rolled up textile scrolls, which are unravelled and brought to life amidst gatherings of people.Artwork
