Kalighat painting originated in the 19th century around the Kalighat temple in Kolkata. Over time, the paintings have transformed from being souvenir items to a distinct school of Indian painting. From the depiction of Hindu gods, goddesses, and mythological characters, the Kalighat paintings have developed to reflect a variety of themes today.
