About the Artist
Hema Joshi was born in 1934. Joshi is a prominent Indian artist who discovered her passion for art after completing her BA from Elphinstone College, Mumbai. She then studied Fine Art at the Sir J.J. School of Art under the tutelage of renowned artists S.L. Haldankar and G.S. Haldankar. Joshi has exhibited widely nationally as well as internationally, including in Germany, France, the US, and the UK. She has held seventeen solo exhibitions and participated in art residencies, such as the Visual Arts UK Program in 1996. Her semi-abstract oil paintings often evoke a sense of whimsy, providing viewers with an escape from life's troubles. Joshi’s work reminds us of the simpler ways of looking at life, a perspective we perhaps lost in the chaos of adulthood. The artist passed away in 2024.
