About Artist

Sajal Sasanka Sarkar, born in Kolkata, West Bengal, in 1971, is a versatile artist known for his experimentation with mediums, techniques, and scale. He earned his diploma in Fine Arts from Rabindra Bharati University in 1998, followed by a Master’s degree in Printmaking from the Faculty of Fine Arts, M.S. University, Baroda, in 2000. Throughout his career, Sarkar has maintained a strong commitment to artistic exploration, constantly evolving his style. Whether working with delicate watercolors or large-format canvases, Sarkar skillfully merges media to create a seamless unity between real and surreal elements, challenging the viewer’s perception. His notable exhibitions include those at Air Gallery and Collyer Bristow Gallery in London (2007), the Birla Academy of Art and Culture in Kolkata, Sarjan Art Gallery in Baroda, and Jehangir Art Gallery in Mumbai. Sarkar’s work has also been featured in international shows such as the Indian Contemporary Art Exhibition in Yangon, Myanmar, organized by Lalit Kala Akademi, and he has participated in various prestigious group shows such as "Cutting Chai" at Sarjan Art Gallery, Vadodara, and "Beyond Credos: Painting in Baroda Today" at Birla Academy, Kolkata. In 2000, Sarkar was awarded the prestigious Millennium All India Art Exhibition prize by the All India Fine Arts and Crafts Society (AIFACS), New Delhi. He currently lives and works in Baroda, continuing to push the boundaries of his artistic practice while contributing to the vibrant art scene.
