Sarika Mehta (Maharashtra)

About Artist

Born in 1980, Sarika Mehta studied at C.N. College of Fine Arts, Ahmedabad, where she earned a diploma in painting (2000), followed by a post-diploma in printmaking from the Faculty of Fine Arts, M.S. University, Baroda (2004). Her solo exhibitions include ‘A Fragile Storm’ at Lemongrasshopper Gallery, Ahmedabad (2009), and ‘Pulled from the Root’ at Galerie Mirchandani + Steinruecke, Mumbai (2008). She has participated in prominent group exhibitions in Mumbai, Hong Kong, Germany, South Korea, and London, such as ‘Black & White’ at Galerie Mirchandani + Steinruecke, Mumbai (2010) and ‘Hybrid Trend’ at Seoul Art Center, South Korea (2006). With a background in painting and printmaking, Mehta emphasizes how her study of printmaking shaped her understanding of space within her work. She reflects on the collaborative nature of printmaking, where working in shared studio spaces taught her to find solitude amidst others, a lesson that permeates her creative process. Mehta has also been selected for several artist residencies, including at Niv Art Centre, New Delhi (2012-13), and Jean-Yves Noblet Contemporary Prints Studio, New York (2008). She was awarded an honorable mention at the 6th Bharat Bhavan International Biennial of Print Art, Bhopal, in 2004. Sarika Mehta currently lives and works in Gujarat.
