Influenced by modern style, Raval's paintings are known for their graceful lines and drama created by means of vibrant colours and definitive forms. The fisherwomen, tribal dancers, fruit sellers, birds and animals in Raval's work are highly reminiscent of the cave paintings at Bhimbetka and the Warli painters of Maharasthra, and reveal the epic styling learnt while a student of murals. He won several important awards including the National Award from the Lalit Kala Academy in 1955, the Academy of Fine Arts Award of Calcutta in 1957, and the Bombay Art Society Award in 1952.
