Pranati Panda (Andra Pradesh)

About Artist

Pranati Panda is a Delhi based artist, initially trained in applied arts at the College of Art and Craft, Bhubaneswar and then at the Delhi College of Art. Her works in mix media and watercolour distort the scale of the pictorial elements to provoke grief and menace. She uses different motifs leading to one another creating an association within themselves. Pranati works out a contrast between the surface imposed and the support as natural, and rests the middle space as the object of desire - for example a figure of a sleeping woman and a baby crawling towards it or a naturalistic grasshopper and a lotus. The spatial composition is made up of individual pictorial elements and she places the stray elements strategically outside of the main structure in a corner of the picture frame. Her works are not illustrative or pretty but they are symbolic showing her inner feeling and mental disturbances. Her drawings are staked out in black and brown and even pinks; the easily flowing lines give dimensions and textures to the motifs done in fabric, seeds and watercolour. Praaiti Panda completed her B.F.A in Applied Arts from B. K. College of Art and Craft, Bhubaneswar (1995) and her M.F.A in Applied Arts from Delhi College of Art, New Delhi. She has also done a course in 2D Animation from NIMT, Bhubaneswar in 1996.
