Anita Roy Chowdhury - (1938–2017) was an Indian painter from Kolkata known for her lyrical, expressive style that blended figurative and semi-abstract forms. She is particularly admired for her innovative use of watercolour, though she also worked in oil, acrylic, charcoal, and mixed media. She studied at the Government College of Art & Craft, Kolkata, where her classmates included notable artists Jogen Chowdhury, Sunil Das, and Dhiraj Choudhury. She joined the Society of Contemporary Artists in 1959, and the group organized her first solo exhibition in 1962. From 1969, she became a member of the Calcutta Painters and exhibited widely in major Indian cities including Kolkata, New Delhi, Mumbai, and Chennai, as well as internationally. Critics have described her work as musical and poetic, emphasizing flowing lines, restrained colour palettes, and a deep connection with nature.Artwork
