  • Jogen Chowdhury (West Bengal)

     Jogen Chowdhury was born in Bengal and studied at the Government College of Arts and Crafts, Kolkata. He won a scholarship from the French Government to study at Ecolenationalesuperieure des Beaux-Arts, Paris. Although Chowdhury has painted oils, his forte is painting in ink, watercolour and pastels. He has mastered the art of line contouring and crosshatching to achieve tonal variations showing men and women in enigmatic situations and dark spaces. He has immensely contributed in inspiring young artists. His works have been exhibited in several shows including the Triennales at New Delhi, the S`o Paulo Biennale of 1979 for which he received an award, as well as in Japan, London, Washington D.C and New York. His works are in the collections of the National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi, the Victoria and Albert Museum, London and the Glenbarra Art Museum, Japan. The artist lives and works in Santiniketan.

  • Ram Kumar (Himachal Pradesh)

     Ram Kumar was born in Shimla and graduated from St. Stephen's College, New Delhi with a degree in Economics. He attended the Sarada Ukil School Of Art in New Delhi and studied painting in Paris. Associated with the Progressive Artists' Group, he was one of the first Indian artists to give up 'figurativism' for abstract art. Ram Kumar was best known for his abstract landscapes, usually in oil or acrylic, and is considered one of India's most eminent abstract painters. Since 1949, he has had over 40 solo exhibitions worldwide. He had received the Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri. The artist lived and worked in New Delhi. The artist passed away in 2018

  • Lalu Prasad Shaw (West Bengal)

     Lalu Prasad Shaw was born in Bengal . He completed his education in fine arts from the Government College of Arts and Crafts in Kolkata. Shaw has exhibited extensively in India and abroad since 1956, and his works have been a part of prestigious international shows such as the second British Biennale in London, 1970, two Norwegian Print Biennales in 1974 and 1978, the seventh Paris Biennale in 1971 and the second Asian Art Biennale hosted by Bangladesh in 1984. His works are a part of the permanent collections of various institutions like the Birla Academy in Calcutta and the Art Forum in Singapore. Lalu Prasad Shaw lives and works in Kolkata, where his son Partha has also established himself as a young artist.

  • Sayed Haider Raza (Madhya Pradesh)

     Sayed Haider Raza was born in Madhya Pradesh and studied at the Nagpur School of Art followed by Sir J. J. School of Art, Mumbai. He was a founding member of the Progressive Artists' Group. In 1950, he left for France on a French government scholarship to study painting at the Ecole national superieure Des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He was later awarded the Prix de la Critique in 1956. He began with expressionist landscapes but later turned his focus to pure geometrical forms. He has had numerous solo exhibitions and participated in group shows including the International Biennales at Venice, Sao Paulo and Menton, and in the Triennale at New Delhi. He has been awarded the Padma Shri and Fellowship of the Lalit Kala Akademi, Padma Bhushan and the Padma Vibhushan. The artist lived and worked in New Delhi until he passed away in 2016.
